Hankerchief Case Pattern

MATERIALS: CLARK’S O.N.T. “BRILLIANT.” 3 balls. Milward’s
Steel Crochet Hook No. 10. 10 inches quilted satin, 36-inch
width. 2/3 yd. ribbon, 3/4 inch wide. GAUGE: Each shell
measures 3/4 inch; 2 rows make 1 inch.
Starting at narrow end, make a 10-inch chain (10 ch sts to 1
inch), 1st row: In 7th ch from hook make 4 tr separated by
ch-2 (a shell made). * Skip 7 ch, make a shell in next ch.
Repeat from * until row measures 8 inches; skip 4 ch, tr in
next ch. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 6, turn.

2nd row: * S c in center sp of next shell, ch 7. Repeat from
* across, ending with ch 5, s c in top of turning ch. Ch 4,
turn.

3rd row: Shell in each s c across, ending with tr in end st
of turning ch. Ch 6, turn. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows
alternately until piece measures 16 inches. Do not fasten
off but, keeping work flat, work 2 rnds of s call around.
Fasten off. Block piece.

Cut 2 pieces of quilted satin, each 1/2 inch larger than
measurements of crocheted piece. Place pieces with right
sides facing, and machine stitch around about 1/4 inch in
from edges, leaving a 4-inch opening. Press seams flat. Turn
case right side out and sew up opening neatly. Press flat.
Tack crocheted piece to one side, along edges. Cut ribbon in
half and sew one piece diagonally across each half of case.
